About

Protogalaxysystems is a company I started after being frustrated with the price and quality of iPod repairs around 2017. In 2018 I expanded into the world of Vintage Hifi Repair, my first restoration being a Marantz 2270. In the beginning, all I did was restorations, primarily on Marantz equipment. I probably did 50+ before I felt confident enough to take on customer work. In late 2019 I started doing a large amount of work for a shop in Millbrook, AL called Classic Audio and Records. Their current tech at the time was willing to “take me in” and teach me how to properly diagnose stereo gear and helped me hone my skills.

As of today I have restored at least 100 units and repaired many more, pretty much everything I have ever worked on has been posted to my Instagram page.

After doing all of these repairs I have learned many things, the biggest being “Do it right the first time”. Many times I am frustrated with the quality of repairs on units I have to repair a 2nd time. Much of the reason why I started doing this was that I am confident that I can do better than many of the people offering repairs and restorations. I believe in using high-quality parts and very rarely will fix only what is wrong, at this point in time it is fairly easy with experience to know what “common failure” components are present in a unit and it is even easier to swap them out while a unit is in the shop. I have seen so many units from local shops that have been destroyed or improperly worked on. Many of these shops have a “if it isn’t broken don’t fix it” attitude, and that is exactly why they have so many of the same pieces returning. If there is one thing I hate, it would have to be repairing a unit for the 2nd time.

My guarantee to you is that you will get high-quality work, with high-quality parts done by someone who has seen more than enough to know what they are doing.
